Learning how to do a chain stitch is easy once you get the hang of it. I don’t use this stitch a lot in my patterns, but I think I might need to. It’s great for adding embellishment to your projects or even making letters. It’s sort of like a lazy daisy stitch, but it’s in a chain. Hence the name “chain stitch.”
Supplies Needed for Chain Stitch Embroidery
- embroidery hoop
- fabric
- embroidery floss
- embroidery needle
How to Chain Stitch Step by Step
The chain stitch can be a little tricky, but once you get it down, it’s not too hard.
- Bring needle up and back down at 1, leaving a loop.
- Bring needle up at 2, through the middle of the loop.
- Pull slightly on thread to tighten.
- Bring needle back down at 2 and repeat the chain.
- End chain with a small straight stitch to tack it down.
