How to do the Fly Stitch

Learning how to do the fly stitch is very simple.  There are three different kinds of fly stitch that you can do, depending on the look you are going for.  One makes more of a “V” shape, one makes a “U” shape (good for embroidering scallops), and the third has a long tail to make a “Y” shape.

How to do the Fly Stitch

The fly stitch is made by bringing your needle up at one side of the V, then you bring it down on the other side.  Before pulling the thread all the way through, you catch it with another small stitch to tack it down.  Depending on how tight you pull, you’ll get a “V” or “U” shape.  The best way to learn is by watching my video tutorial below.
