How to do a Satin Stitch

Learning how to do a satin stitch can take a little bit of practice.  I still have a little bit of trouble with this one myself sometimes.  It’s a great stitch for filling in small areas and letters, and it’s definitely one that you should learn as an embroidery artist.

How to do a Satin Stitch

I find it’s easiest to learn how to do a satin stitch if you break up the shape into smaller sections, and I like to stitch just outside the line on my pattern.  You can even outline the shape in a split stitch, back stitch or stem stitch if that helps you.  Bring needle up at 1 and down at 2. Bring needle back up at 3. Keep stitches close together and stitch across the entire shape to fill it.
