Appliqued Superhero Capes

A friend of mine has three little superhero fans in her house.  I made them some of my superhero masks, and they, of course, needed some capes to go with them.  I used a higher quality felt this time around for the masks.  You can read my post about felt here.  For the capes, I just used my tutorial for easy superhero capes and designed some new appliques to go on them.  Warning: If you are a perfectionist, you will probably want to find a different pattern for the actual cape.  I am anti-measuring when I make these.  🙂

Iron Man of course needed to be the upgraded version with the triangle logo.

Wolverine got a nice big x-men symbol.

Trace the free templates that I created onto the paper side of some Wonder Under and iron it onto some solid colored cotton, following the instructions.  Cut out the shapes with scissors and peel off the paper backing.

Iron each part of the applique onto your finished cape following the Wonder Under instructions.  The Captain America logo is layered.  Iron on each layer separately as shown.

Stitch around the outer edge of each part of the applique with thread to match.

The edges on my appliques are all a bit frayed since I used my Silhouette CAMEO to cut them out, and I’m due for a new blade.  I kinda like it though, so lets pretend that’s how it is supposed to be.  🙂  Speaking of… Silhouette’s promo is still going on, and it’s been extended until the 10th due to some technical difficulties on their site!  Check out my post about the promo here to get a great deal!

What a great gift idea for the little superhero in your life!

Do you happen to have a Hulk template? I am making a reversible cape for my nephew for his birthday and he LOVES Iron Man and the Hulk. I can't seem to find a fun Hulk template anywhere ... and being as I hardly sew to begin with ...making my own probably won't happen :) PS ... LOVE all your creativity! Thanks for sharing!

I don't. The person I was making these for only wanted these ones. I didn't know the Hulk had a symbol. You could probably google it and find an image to trace.

Love this! Super cute :) (no punn intended :)) I was wondering what program you used to create the template for the masks and icons?
